Maceo Parker Bath International Music Festival presents
Maceo Parker
A true party night with one of the most explosive saxophonists in history! High power funk and great jazz delivered by a powerhouse eight-piece band including British trombonist Dennis Rollins.
It would be hard to name anyone with a better funk pedigree than Maceo, cutting his teeth with the Godfather of Soul James Brown with whom he formed one of the most famous horn sections alongside Pee Wee Ellis.
Through the 70s his sound became synonymous with the new wave of funk including George Clinton, and has taken him on a journey that has seen him on stage with Ray Charles, James Taylor, De La Soul and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
From musical collaborator with the inventor of funk, to a world famous musician in his own right, Maceo has always maintained one thing: glittering playing and a deep down funk sound.
Price: £15, £17.50 on the door
Dave Holland Quintet + Dan Stern Quintet Bath International Music Festival presents
Dave Holland Quintet + Dan Stern Quintet
At the pinnacle of his career, Dave Holland has settled naturally into the role of jazz master. The multi-award and poll-winning bassist, composer, arranger and bandleader leads two of the most vibrant groups in jazz: the Dave Holland Quintet and the Dave Holland Big Band.
A one time sideman Holland cut his teeth with two titans of jazz, Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis; a seminal experience as a band member on the extraordinary album Bitches Brew. Holland made his debut as a leader in the early 70s and has since gone on to become one of the most highly regarded international jazz musicians and a legend of jazz bass.
Rapidly becoming the name to watch in British jazz - hailed by Time Out as ‘a striking new talent at work' - visionary composer and saxophonist Dan Stern has always made sure that composition has been at the heart of his music. His conviction has paid off with the critics and audience alike falling for his sophisticated and rhythmically complex writing.
See him tonight with a band featuring some of the best British players on the scene.
This concert is dedicated to the joyous memory of Heloise Osborne, a tireless and inspirational worker for music, musicians and jazz at Bath International Music Festival.

After 55 years in the business Dr Ralph Stanley and his seven piece band the Clinch Mountain Boys still perform with the dexterity and energy of youth. Known to longtime fans of American folk, Ralph Stanley reached millions of people around the world as the haunting voice on the Coen Brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack.
His distinctive, stripped down sound hails from the mountains of West Virginia and the harsh beginnings of life in the late 40s in one of the most deprived, yet poetic, areas of the States.
Ralph will be joined on the night by guest slots from the yarn-spinning Jerry Harmon (also performing at the Rondo) and a welcome return by singer songwriter Charlie Parr.
